Stepping out

The chicks had their first free range experience the other day. They met Meg, who was promptly pecked on the nose and now avoids chickens, and ventured out for a little walk outside the coop.

  1. I'm glad the chickens made things clear with Meg, as I don't think they would appreciate her herding attempts.

  2. At least they're likely to survive the herding - it's the affection I'm more concerned about. There tends to be a lot of shaking of loved objects. So far, under reasonably close supervision we haven't noticed much more than ordinary (as opposed to Border Collie obsessive) curiousity and a healthy wariness. And yes, some concern when the whole flock isn't neatly arranged.
